Yes, this indentation of the back of the neck is helpful in alerting one that there is cord at least across the back of the neck. I have always been able to confirm that it is cord using color Doppler. I have rarely been able to trace the cord (with color) around the front of the neck. For some reason, I have never discovered a nuchal cord when the front of the fetal neck is closest to the transducer. Allen

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit.
