ARDMS Earns ANSI-ISO 17024 Accreditation
ARDMS is the recognized international standard in sonography
credentialing.
(ROCKVILLE, MD, June 15, 2005) — The American Registry for Diagnostic
Medical Sonography (ARDMS) has earned the prestigious accreditation for
certifying bodies from the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
Accreditation is granted through the American National Standards
Institute (ANSI), the U.S. sponsoring organization to ISO.
By achieving ANSI-ISO accreditation, ARDMS has become the
internationally recognized standard in ultrasound credentialing.
“ANSI-ISO accreditation is truly one of th! ! e great accomplishments of
ARDMS in its 30-year history. All ARDMS Registrants can now be proud
that their credentials are recognized internationally in scope, and that
ARDMS is recognized as a global organization,” says Dale R. Cyr, MBA,
CAE, chief executive officer and executive director of ARDMS.
ISO launched its new personnel-certification accreditation, ISO 17024,
in 2002. It is now endorsed by 85 countries. Its goal is to achieve a
globally accepted benchmark for organizations that certify individuals,
worldwide. The standard includes rigorous requirements for
examination-development and maintenance and for quality management
systems for continuing quality assurance. ARDMS is the seventh
organization in the world to achieve this accreditation.
Notes ARDMS Board Chair, Paul A. Cardullo, MS, BSN, RVT, “For every
sonographer who holds ARDMS certification, and – just as important – for
the sonography profession as a whole, ANSI-ISO accreditation provides a
new measure of prestige that is recognized worldwide.”
“In addition,” notes ARDMS Board member J. Geoffrey Stevenson, MD,
FACC, “accreditation by ANSI-ISO demonstrates the rigor of ARDMS’
approach to credentialing in all aspects of sonography practice.”
In addition, ARDMS has been accredited by the National Commission for
Certifying Agencies (NCCA) for over 24 years.
