Re: Informal poll on trisomy 21 screeningFrom: Dave Berck (djberck@yahoo.com)Mon May 16 08:34:46 2005
I have also had a false negative similar to yours. I also had a patient who screened positive on 1st tri screening, then declined amnio. Then had a 2nd tri serum screen which was negative, then had markers on "genetic" sono at 20 weeks at which point she decided to have amnio which revealed tri-21. Since these are all screening tests, one would expect false positives and negatives. That's why I do the "community standard" (2nd tri multiple marker screening), and try to counsel people sensibly when it is positive after a negative 1st tri screen, which happens frequently.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
