I have also had a false negative similar to yours. I also had a patient who screened positive on 1st tri screening, then declined amnio. Then had a 2nd tri serum screen which was negative, then had markers on "genetic" sono at 20 weeks at which point she decided to have amnio which revealed tri-21. Since these are all screening tests, one would expect false positives and negatives. That's why I do the "community standard" (2nd tri multiple marker screening), and try to counsel people sensibly when it is positive after a negative 1st tri screen, which happens frequently.
