Re: Informal poll on trisomy 21 screening

We are just in transition. Our method had been nuchal translucency and fetal survey at ~ 12 weeks. Then triple screen or quad screen at 16 weeks, and fetal survey at 18-22 weeks.

Now that I have achieved the FMF credential for nuchal translucency, I hope that within a month or two we will be doing NT and 1st trimester maternal biochemistry, and of course later an AFP. We use GenCare, and that is free beta HCG and PAPP-A. But I find that despite the benefits claimed for 1st trimester screening, the obstetricians that I work with are slow to change.

For those patients that do not register early enough for nuchal translucency, I presume we will do the quad screen and 2nd trimester fetal survey.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
