Re: The fight is being lost...From: Dr. Eric Deigan (ericdeigan@prodigy.net)Mon Sep 27 10:48:19 2004
Thank you for your input, Daniel. I agree completely with you, that if we as sonographers and sonologists give the patients a little bit of what they want, then they wouldn't have a need to find a Fetal Foto type studio. The problem we have in here, though, is that many places that do ultrasound are not patient and family friendly. They might not let family members come in, or they might not show and tell patients what they are seeing on the scan, and they either haven't invested in the 3-D technology or if they have it they don't take the time to try to obtain a nice picture of the face for the parents. So instead of trying to provide an extra service that they might be able to charge for, they try to find reasons why we shouldn't be doing it, like saying that maybe it's dangerous, that most of the public isn't going to believe. It seems to me like the same type of problem that we saw when husbands were first being allowed into delivery rooms.... those that didn't like the idea wanted us to believe that the babies were going to get infected or some other disasters would ensue... but now it's allowed everywhere and we think nothing much about it.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
