The California state legislature has passed bill AB 2049 which adds a paragraph to the state health and safety code which reads as follows: A person or facility that offers fetal ultrasound, or a similar procedure, for keepsake or entertainment purposes, shall disclose to a client prior to performing the procedure, in writing, the following statement: "The federal Food and Drug Administration has determined that the use of medical ultrasound equipment for other than medical purposes, or without a physician's prescription, is an unapproved use. art

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
