Does hypochorionic hemorrhage alters triplo-test results?From: Yiannis Nickolidakis (nickolidakis@geneticsunit.gr)Wed Mar 31 09:28:42 2004
I’d better ask your advice. I accept a 38 years old woman (1st gravida - doctor’s wife). She got pregnant after her 3d attempt of IVF . In the beginning there were twins. One embryo was missed on 7th week. Severe vaginal bleeding was often seen until 15th week. Nuchal translucency of the remaining fetus was normal (1,6mm). Triplo-test results showed an overall risk 1:30. (AFP 40,6 IU/ml) – 1,17 MoM, uE3 1,32ng/ml – 0,69 MoM, free b-HCG 22,64mIU/ml – 3,86 MoM.) On the 18th week the fetus looks normal. The only marker is certain echogenic bowel, possibly due to hemorrhage. There is also, a large hematoma between amniotc cavity and the front wall of the uterus. I want to ask if there is another statistic program that alters triplo-test results in such cases -where there is an obvious bleeding. What would you advise this woman? Thank you Dr. Yiannis Nickolidakis Athens, Greece http://www.medpages.obgyn.net/geneticsunit.gr
