Our Clinic does not have anything to do with Tricare. We do have an Army base here in Fairbanks, Alaska, and we have notices posted for the military dependents that might come to our clinic: "Fairbanks Clinic is an inactive, non-authorized provider for TriCare. We cannot bill out for TriCare. Also you as a patient cannot bill TriCare or submit secondary billing to TriCare". What is medically indicated? The family history, personal history, maternal age, or lifestyle are of little help in otherwise identifying patients at risk. I'd be happy to testify for the plaintiff when a major fetal anomaly could have been detected but the patient was not given the basic right of a fetal anatomic survey. Between the cost of caring for a handicaped infant and the potential legal judgment against the insurance carrier, most carriers have determined that this is not a battle to fight. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
