This case illustrates the difference between a screening test and a diagnostic test. With regard to Down's Syndrome, amniocentesis, PUBS, CVS for karyotyping are all diagnostic tests. Ultrasound, biochemistry and serum analytes are screening tests. Screening tests do not count the chromosomes, they help stratify risk. High risk does not mean you have a problem. Low risk does not mean you have no problem. art

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
