Dear Dr. Worrall, Today I went into the OB/GYN for my annual pelvic exam. I am a healthy 29 year old woman. I mentioned to her that my periods were becoming increasingly painful and heavy over the last year and a half. I seemed to have had an overall increase in the length of my periods. I completely stop bleeding for a day or two in the middle of it, cramp horribly and then I expel enormous clots for the next two days and then it ends. The pain is so excruciating that I find myself bedridden. She screened me for all the usual issues and ordered a sonogram. The result was the dx. of a retroflexed uterus. It is so flexed that it is pushing on my rectum, which explains the increase in constipation over the last year. I hope that this helps you from a patient perspective. I am definitely not an expert, but as someone who is experiencing the symptoms that you described, I want you to know that this is not an isolated case. Thank you for wanting to learn more.
