Re: Distended Urinary BladderFrom: Dr Ross Welch, UK (ross.welch@whnt.nhs.uk)Thu May 1 02:44:10 2003
Dear Mario I have seen a number of "distended" bladders at this gestation. The majority have returned to normal proportions later in gestation (by 16/40). They are a worry though as they could be an early PUV or prune belly. I've just returned from the 22nd fetal Medicine & Surgery meeting where the 10 yr follow up is still clearly showing benefits of early bladder shunting so I would follow closely. I believe bladder function happens earlier than the books say. I certainly regularly see bladders (defined by identifying the two hyopogastric arteries going to the cord) when doing NT scans at 11-13 weeks.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
