Re: Unilateral, large, hyperechoic kidney

Dear Terry Dubose,

I want to give some information about the fetus with unilateral hyperechoic kidney. The pregnancy was terminated according to the choice of the parents, and the fetus was sent to autopsy. I contacted with the pathologist today and got the following information:

On the large hyperechoic kidney side ureteral duplication was detected. There were numerous small cystic structures in this kidney. However the other kidney, ureter and bladder were normal. The pathologist told me that it can't be a ARPCKD. He said that the report will be written after a consultation.

The other case which was encountered at a nearby hospital is definitely not the same one. According to the given information, this pregnancy is still ungoing. In this case the family had two neonatal deaths due to the infantyl PCKD, and parents have consanguinty (cousin marriage). This case is more likely to be an infantyly PCKD. I requested from the responsible colleague to write more information to the forum.

Thank you for your interest...
