Your daughters baby has an echogenic focus in the heart. This has a chance of being a down syndrome marker in 1.8% of pregnancies. The most important thing is that there are not other markers for Down syndrome. If you had other things that indicated downs syndrome, for example, a nuchal fold that is increased, or fluid in the kidneys, these things in combination are a diagnosis. Taking into account your daughters age and not other markers I would not be concerned. Take care Virginia421@aol.com

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
