fetal pericardial effusion - twinsFrom: valdo reche - Brazil (valdorec@uol.com.br)Mon Dec 23 05:03:38 2002
A pregnant woman - expecting twins was referred to our clinic because one of the fetous had a large pericardial effusion, she was on her 12 week. The NT from this fetus was 1.7 mm at that time. Both fetous were growing normally and the parents decline doing the amniocentesis. On the 28 week we couldn't find any effusion anymore and this fetus keeps growing normally. I've seen some papers at medline regarding fetal pericardial effusion and it seems dubious if we should do the amniocentesis or not. Since the pericardial effusion was seen in the first trimester the risk for down syndrome is increased? By the way there was no other abnormality in the heart from this fetus but the pericardial effusion.
