Hey Guys, Don't get too excited about the amount of energy being transferred to the first trimester when doing 3D. I now have a 3/4D machine and I just did the math. If a 2D sono is done with a PRF of 3000/sec and the exam is 10 minutes long the total number of pulses is 180,000! (10 min X 60 sec X 3000). When I do a 3D the beam is "Swept" across the anatomy (not in ONE place) and takes about "3" seconds. From that "one" sweep I can do CRL, AC, HC (of course if far enough along in the pregnancy). In "one" sweep I can R/O neural tube defects, see both arms and legs, umb. insertion, etc, etc,etc.........SO, I am saying don't yell too much until you drive the cadillac. I AM NOT SAYING that I agree with the money grabbers but I would be willing to bet that they do not spend very much time doing an exam(for money reasons). They don't have to. By the way, student sonographers take a LONG time to do their OB exams. This is my side AFTER driving the cadillac.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
