Dr. Platt, this is a good first step, and I thank GE for making it.
However, many will be waiting to see if GE "drops the other shoe" and
instructs GE Medical Systems to only sell ultrasound instrumentation to
individuals who have documented education (accredited, not just "3 week
wonders") and skills in sonography... and who indicate that they will use
it in accordance within the FDA's policies.
Thanks to the AIUM for their work on this problem, but this is only the
first step, I fear it isn't over.

incidentally - is it me or has GE pulled this ad?
In response to this question GE has been most responsive to the AIUM's
input and concerns. They have pulled the ad to rewrite it and add a
disclaimer re it's use for clinical indications only.Dr Kurtz who is out
of town at present will shortly post some information re all the activity
the AIUM has been involved in with GE and the FDA.I am sure you all would
be pleased with the impact we have had with this.GE has been
impressive in their response and how they quickly handled this situation
that appearently came from "ccorporate GE" and not Medical Sysytems. They
have also pulled all places from their web site that are using the 3D and
4D only for "entertainment". Please look for Dr Kurtz s' official
statement from the AIUM .
