Re: 4D UltrasoundFrom: Karen Roersma (kroersmardms@netscape.net)Tue Jul 2 21:51:56 2002
Terry, I think GE may be the company who sold to a sonographer who consequently started her own "fetal ultrasound portrait studio." You & I hane discussed this situation previously. FDA notified, but guess what? Still operating! She's working through a loophole, but who knows if it's big enough for her to continue, especially if the complaints keep coming in. Shame on GE! Don't even try to tell me the salesperson doesn't know the use is non-medical! Anyone ready to start writing letters to the editor to your local papers? You know, get the word out that this type of "business" exposes parents to risks suck as a missed diagnosis, and possible fetal bioeffects from operator error and possible higher exposure from 3- and 4-D scanners, and NO regulation of operators (could be a day care operator who decides to open a "sonographic portrait studio." Most parents have NO CLUE of the potential risks, and all for a cute photo & some video!

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
