4D UltrasoundFrom: kathleen.murphy@gwmail.maricopa.eduFri Jun 28 08:53:23 2002
Last night we attended a GE roadshow in Phoenix, Arizona on 3D and 4D Ultrasound. I am going to be politically correct here and focus on what was presented with the obvious medical benefits in both OB and Gyn. Also, there appears to be some published and unpublished data that was presented stating that patients feel there is better bonding for all involved when they can see the baby with the 3D and 4D ultrasound (parents, family, etc.)compared with 2D. There was also live scanning with a real pregnant patient so we could see this too!! The most interesting remarks presented were that GE essentially develops the product and what the end user/purchaser does with the product is their business. Who that qualified user/purchaser is, was not discussed. Many Sonographers in town stated they are getting lots of phone calls from patients asking about this technology and asking for the product by name. Personally I was more impressed with the notebook scanner, it looks like in the near future those units will be everywhere. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
