Re: Another great abuse of ultrasound...From: DuBose, Terry (DuboseTerryJ@uams.edu)Mon Jun 24 11:44:25 2002
Dr. Smeltzer, we may be miscommunication... I am not talking about medical uses of sonography. This is about folks who are using sonography to provide video tapes of the baby without medical interpretations. Like the "Womb With a View" business in Houston that was quoted in the Wall Street Journal that "This is not for medical diagnosis. I don't care if the baby has 3 legs, I will only point out 2." Heidi Evans, "Womb with a View: Unborn Babies Star in Fetal Film Fests," Wall Street Journal, 30 November 1993, A1, A4 This kind of "sonography for profit", but not for medicine is proliferating. I think you will agree this attitude is abusive of sonography, and should be considered criminal. Peace, Terry J. Terry, If preventing fetal death is a salutory goal, then what is the problem with providing a woman with information about what her fetus actually looks like, if she desires that information? If this is another great abuse of ultrasound, then I am the Mad Hatter and you are the Queen of Spades! Jim

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
