Re: Pelvic KidneyFrom: James S Smeltzer MD (gaperina@mindspring.com)Mon Jun 10 01:25:58 2002
Hi, It is quite the norm for non-functioning and small kidneys noted before birth to regress and to "disappear". This is not a problem. Infection, blockage, loss of function, excess salt intake, smoking, football injury, hypertension and diabetes, if not treated, are all problems that can affect the other kidney. If this happens, then there is a problem. in girls, there can be a problem with the uterus or tubes later. Others in the family can also have kidney cysts, undergrowth, mis-placement. Jim

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
