Home use for ultrasound.From: Donna Gereg (love2shop72@covad.net)Wed May 15 22:20:36 2002
Hello, I'm an ultrasound sonographer at an ob/gyn office. I know the basic "theories" on how US can possibly not be safe in pregnancy. I myself can not see that. My question is, I am planning on my own pregnancy soon and I own a portable ultrasound machine. I was wondering what, if any medical problems could arise from doing scans routinely at home for myself. I have very hard pregnancies with preterm labor. I also have elevated antibodies which make me have to take baby aspirin and heparin injections. Normally, I get scans done at work monthly, and see the perinatologist monthly as well for more in depth scans. How much harm could be done if I did a scan per week at home, or even a few times a week. In my past two live pregnancies I had over fifty scans. I also have had three miscarriages which makes me want to have the scans done at home for my own piece of mind. Thank you very much, Donna Gereg.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
