I have never imaged slender people with any difficulty. Overwheight brings out that diffuculty all right. Notwithstanding, some of them, most likely as a function of some propperty of fat, produce clearer sonos, to compare with others. I don't even know if you can study any effects that cigarette smoking would have on ultrasound transmission through a patients' body. I know that it seems a little far fetched, but we find that when we scan thin pregnant people who one would think would be an ideal fetal scan, the imaging can be quite difficult on people who are smokers. We wondered if there could be other factors involved, such as maybe a poor diet. Even when these women are well hydrated, it is not easy to obtain good images.
