Re: Vernix Caseosa - at what gestational age is it first seen byFrom: DuBose, Terry (DuboseTerryJ@uams.edu)Wed Feb 13 14:26:45 2002
It might depend upon how early in gestation. If the amnion and chorion is not fused, then the material between, called the "magma reticular" by Creasy & Resnik, is slightly echogenic... very slightly, but more than the amniotic fluid. But if it is after the 1st trimester I doubt it would be the magma reticular. Peace, Terry J. The "crud" that I saw yesterday was inside. Echopenic areas between the internal os and the amnion I would assume to be old blood or clot. Allen

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
