Re: Umbilical Artery DopplerFrom: Dr.Udayakumar (udaya@md2.vsnl.net.in)Wed Jan 23 06:35:06 2002
Reversed diastolic flow in Umb.artery should not be viewed in Isolation. Was there Oligohydramnios? Can you exclude severe Cord compression? If the fetus is IUGR, then it takes as much as 4weeks is some cases before fetal distress occurs. On the other hand, if you are dealing with PIH, then, 48 - 72hrs is the time available to get the baby out. Cliche is you don't how much time has already elapsed. On seeing absent or reversed Diastolic flow in the Umb.artery, I would set out to sample the MCA, Fetal aorta, Umb vein ( Is it pusatile?) and more importantly the fetal IVC and Ductus venosus before I put the probe down. Such an approach gives a comprehensive idea about fetal flow redistribution in response to hypoxia. Dr.Udayakumar, Genesis Scans, INDIA. jude biss wrote:

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
