Re: nuchal cordsFrom: Allen Worrall (jworrall@alaska.net)Tue Jan 15 21:14:13 2002
In my experience the ob doctors are inclined to do nothing special, just as the midwife did in the case reported by Mary. In a case about one year ago, a breech at term with the cord tightly over the back of the neck causing indentation equal to the diameter of the cord, a section was done, but I think the section was done because of the breech presentation. The ob doctor told me the cord did not seem to be tight. In that case I do not think I could be sure the cord went all around the neck. Sometimes of course you can demonstrate the cord going all around the neck. At term that is often not possible because when you try to obtain an axial view of the neck, the underside becomes lost in shadow. Allen

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
