Sonographically thick placentaFrom: Rich Dempsey RDMS/RVT (ridem@msn.com)Mon Dec 17 05:26:28 2001
27 week G5P4, no prenatal care, no vag bleeding, with severe "band-like" lower pelvic pain. There was no evidence of retroplacental bleed, and the fetus was active w/o evidence of anomalies. Would the presence of a 41mm thick placenta at 27 weeks be of concern? The posterior placenta was measured in numerous locations, and did not have any focal bulges, anechoic or calcific areas, and otherwise appeared normal. No history of Rh factor, thalessemia (sic), etc. No fetal hydrops (although that would be a 3rd Trimester manifestation.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
