Folks may want to look at this... it will have a negative affect reimbursement for sonography. Peace, Terry J. DuBose, M.S., RDMS, APS Assistant Professor & Director, Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program CHRP, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Little Rock, Arkansas, USA 501-686-6510 http://www.io.com/~dubose/ http://www.uams.edu/CHRP/dmshome.htm http://www.obgyn.net/us/panel/panel.htm -----Original Message----- From: webmaster@sdms.org [mailto:webmaster@sdms.org] Sent: Monday, December 03, 2001 9:36 AM To: SDMS Members Subject: LEGISLATIVE ALERT - IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUESTED Importance: High *** LEGISLATIVE ALERT - IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUESTED - URGENT *** MEMO TO: ALL SDMS MEMBERS FROM: Shannon Boswell SDMS Govt. Relations Committee Chair RE: Proposed Medicare Cuts CMS (formerly HCFA) is proposing a decrease to physician fee Medicare reimbursement of 5.4%. In addition to other recent reimbursement cuts we believe that this fee reduction, if implemented, will have a negative effect on patient access to needed healthcare services, and also have a negative "downstream" impact on allied health providers who work with physicians in the provision of healthcare services. The SDMS has joined the AMA, along with many other professional healthcare associations, in opposing this cut. The alternative bill proposes a decrease of .9% instead of the 5.4% cut. We are coming down to a critical time in this congressional session and we are asking our membership to get involved by contacting your own Representative and Senators opposing this Medicare reimbursement decrease. An attached "template" letter is attached for your use. Because of the time restrictions, and the difficulties with sending mail now to congressional offices, we ask that you use FAX transmissions, or FedEx delivery. If you do not know who your representative or senator is, or you need office contact information, you can acquire this information through the SDMS website: http://www.sdms.org/members/gov/default.asp This SDMS website information is contained on the part of the website that is restricted to SDMS members under: "Government Relations" We ask that these contacts/letters be completed/sent by Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001. In advance, we thank you for your support and involvement.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
