Re: The Big Apple's Still StandingFrom: DuBose, Terry (DuboseTerryJ@uams.edu)Wed Sep 12 12:55:37 2001
>From what I gather, the large aircraft, loaded with fuel for a trans-continental flight, were able to punch through the skin of these more modern buildings... spilling the fuel inside. The intense heat caused a decomposition of concrete, that with the structural damage of the crash seems to have lead to the structural failure at the top. Once the collapse began, the momentum brought down the lower floors also. The added weight above the fire in the tower hit by the 2nd plane (which hit lower down) might explain why it fell first... but it is all conjecture at this point. Will we build more tall buildings? I think so... the Earth isn't getting any larger, and there are more and more of us. We just need to learn to live on this small planet in peace and tolerate our differences. We have looked as far into space as we can see with modern telescopes and space travel... there is no place to go that we can see within many, many light-years. We are stuck here, together, for better or worse... let us work for the best. Violence on this small planet is the problem... not a solution. Peace, Terry J. How come an airplane ran into the Empire State Building some years ago (by accident I believe, not terrorism) and the building did not collapse? Granted, I think it was a much smaller airplane. Could there be anything about the construction of the WTC that contributed to the amazing collapse of both towers? Allen

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
