Re: Gender Discrimination in UltrasoundFrom: Terry J DuBose (DuBoseTerryJ@UAMS.edu)Tue Aug 21 13:02:59 2001
Dear Dr Nirvikar Dahiya DMRD: You are absolutly correct, this can be a very difficult issue. Infact, if one considers the possibility of sex-linked genetic disorders... the "gray line" becomes a bit wavy. In thinking about this subject and how to involve my students in a constructive discussion, I remembered that FIGO has a wonderful publication on OB/GYN ethical issues that discusses this very issue. For the main page of the FIGO Ethics publication see: http://www.figo.com/default.asp?id=6001 "RECOMMENDATIONS ON ETHICAL ISSUES IN OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY BY THE FIGO COMMITTEE FOR THE ETHICAL ASPECTS OF HUMAN REPRODUCTION AND WOMEN'S HEALTH - August 2000" For the pages dealing with "SEX SELECTION" see: http://www.figo.com/default.asp?id=6094 The paperback version of this document was available at the FIGO2000 conference in Washington, DC. I am pleased to see that the entire publication is now available FREE on the http://wwweb... and that the "Design and maintenance of this website is donated by OBGYN.net in memory of Ricardo Marques, MD. FIGO acknowledges the contribution of Dr Hans van der Slikke in the development of this Website. ©1998, International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics. All rights reserved." It is a pleasure to be associated with this web site. Thanks everyone for the great discussions and educational information. Peace, Terry J. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
