Disappearing twin?

Hi,

I am looking for information relating to the 'disappearing twin', I had an ultrasound five days ago at 10 weeks and they found this was the case, my scan image is virtually identical to the one displayed here, and I too had no bleeding whatsoever.

This is my fourth pregnancy and I have always known I was pregnant virtually from conception, and I have always known without doubt the sex of each of my children, as my husband and friends would confirm.

Around two weeks ago I got up one morning and told my husband that I feared that the baby had died, I was certain that something was very wrong, I felt this incredible emptiness. I had no reason to feel this way, no pain and no bleeding.

I realise of course that it is natural to worry during pregnancy especially during the early stages, but this was something far more than worry. I have never had any problems with previous pregnancies, no bleeding and have never miscarried..

What I would like to know is if this is common, and can this have any effect on the remaining feotus, any information would be most welcome.

Thanking you,

Diane McCune
