Re: Fetal lung madurityFrom: James S Smeltzer MD (gaperina@mindspring.com)Mon Jul 16 07:23:05 2001
Pablo, Fetal lung hypoplasia, severe enough to result in certain death, is not predictable by sonography. I have had babies who were doomed by certain formulae who are walking around using their own lungs. I have had others who died of hypoplasia despite acceptable or viable ratios (heart to chest). Rules of thumb, so far, have been very poor in my hands, and those of many others. The people who perform "life-saving" surgery on unborn babies for possibly fatal problems may have other opinions. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
