carotid artery intima-medial thicknessFrom: udaya kumar (udaya@md2.vsnl.net.in)Mon Apr 30 23:51:47 2001
Increased IMT can be predictive for asymptomatic CAD IMT increases the risk of CAD by 1.91-fold for each 0.1 mm, independent of other significant predictors. The practical implications are that ultrasound of common carotid arteries can help to identify individuals who may be at risk for CAD in a way that is less stressful than treadmill exercise testing methods, and that interval measurements may be useful in assessing the efficacy of therapeutic or preventive interventions. Can anyone help me with info about the precise way (technique) in accurately measuring this intima-medial thickness? Something like the precise manner in which nuchal transluscency is estimated. ..Udayakumar
