Re: Ultrasound & Down's - Are We As Good As We Think?From: Allen Worrall (jworrall@alaska.net)Wed Feb 28 11:02:47 2001
Art - I think Drs Filly and Benacerraf are telling us the same thing: these markers have to be used with wisdom and discretion and with the exception of nuchal fold, an isolated single soft marker probably is meaningless and we should not terrify the patient. Still, there are numerous accounts of a Down fetus with only one minor marker or no markers at all. Thus the medical/legal dilemma: with a little bad luck, by failing to mention an isolated minor marker, you could be in hot water. Then we have Dr. DeVore's 91% detection, not using serum screening at all. I must say, some of the responses on the recent thread have shaken my confidence in triple screen.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
