Ultrasound-Diagnosis or treatment?From: Dr.Naseem Ahmad (dr_naseemahmad@yahoo.com)Wed Feb 21 13:59:23 2001
I am pleased that I initiated this debate. Having gone through the comments from various repondents I have concluded that my initial belief that a sonologist should not end the report with a su\ggestive line of treatment is not only unethical but can have adverse effects on the anxious patient and may influence the planned treatment, is right. Opinions on the findings may vary and the sonologist has the right to discuss the findings with an inquisitive patient but cannot and should not write remarks which may cause worry to the patients. I am grateful to all of you who gave their comments and i am certain this will have very positive effect at least on sonologists in my part of the world who are relatively more notorious in "misguiding" the patients by giving the line of treatment at the end of the reports. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
