Re: Ultrasound--diagnosis or treatment?From: Allen Worrall (jworrall@alaska.net)Fri Feb 16 10:56:57 2001
Dr. Ahmad - why don't you look into opening an ultrasound department within your own practice? You would need a machine and a sonographer, and you may need to take an interest in ob/gyn sonography, read a few texts, go to meetings, etc, but it can be done. I agree that this sort of thing is a problem. As a gynecologist and also a sonographer/sonologist, I try to be sensitive to this problem when the patient is sent to me by someone else. (Many of my scans are patients that I have seen as a gynecologist). Usually the patient knows I am a gynecologist and presses me for my opinion. I always say something to them (except for one family practice doctor who definitely did not want me to say anything to her patients) and I always preface my remarks by reminding the patient that I am not their doctor and their doctor may have other ideas. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
