Re: Grant NotificationFrom: DuboseTerryJ@uams.eduThu Jan 25 08:16:38 2001
I may not be the best one to ask. I know many schools have had machines donated by manufacturers, usually older demo machines, but I have NEVER been able to get them to. We now have a very old ATL UM4, that won't even do M-Mode, much less Doppler. We have been promised one of the older ACUSONs from the Univ Hospital when they are replaced in a few months. As for which machine is best for teaching, the one you can get affordably is my answer... Any machine is better than none. However, if there is one particular type of machine used in the clinics where your students will be, then that type of machine will enable them to learn the controls faster. However, it also limits variety of machines and the students start to believe that the one they studied with is the only one or the best one... not true, of course. I would look in the various journal classified adds for used equipment brokers, if you plan to purchase a used machine. There are many resellers, and it just depends on what is available at what cost when you ask. But first, you should approach the manufacturers about an educational donation. You might have better luck than I have. Good luck. Terry J. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
