Informal Case: Unusual Yolk SacFrom: Becci Thom (bthom@co.wilkin.mn.us)Thu Dec 28 14:12:16 2000
Hi - I am a first time pregnant woman. I had a vaginal altrasound and I saw the baby's heart beat. When the doctor explained the altrasound. He said the shape of the yolk sac was something we'd be watching. It wasn't something he was necessarily concerned with but he said it's supposed to be round and mine was more egg shaped. I wasn't aware the shape had anything to do with pregnancy. Can you give me some suggestions or opinions on how the shape of the yolk sac affects my pregnancy & what it actually means? I don't even know exactly what the yolk sac actually is. My doctor originally thought I was 9 weeks pregnant but after the altrasound the radiologist thinks maybe I'm only approximately 5 weeks pregnant. The reason I went in for an altrasound is that I started spotting approximately 5 days ago. It started out real dark and light. By today it is red and more heavy. The doctor told me this was normal as he thinks it was caused from the baby attaching to the uterine wall. I guess I just have more questions as to why I'd still be bleeding. I'm kinda scared I could be having a miscarriage although the bleeding isn't real heavy or accompanied by any blood clots. I'd appreciate any information you may be able to give me on this issue. Thanks in advance for any help & answers you can provide. BECCI
