Re: Banana Cerebellum: CASE UPDATE !From: Terry J DuBose (tjdubose@juno.com)Wed Nov 8 17:39:10 2000
Dr. Fougner... you are absolutely correct... in fact a quick check of some textbooks in my office actually reveals that others have actually mislabeled the cerebellum... Please compare the following images. The correct and confirming anatomy by our own Harm-Gerd Karl Blaas. Then two textbooks that actually have it backwards! They have labeled the two early frontal lobes of the cerebrum as the cerebellum... Look at these: Blaas H-GK; The Embryonic Examination; Doctoral Dissertation, Norwegian University of Science and technology, 1998, p. 188. Fleischer AC & Kepple KM; Transvaginal Sonography 2nd Ed. Lippincott 1995, p. 263. And Carter J; An Atlas of Transvaginal Sonography, Lippincott 1994, p. 109. Not to pick on anyone, but I believe that Dr. Worrall is correct in his labeling of the cerebellar fossa and should definitely publish his observations. In Blaas's monograph he shows an 11 week fetal head (CRL 49 mm) with the posterior fossa, "mesencephalon". This is really good, important information. I tried to attach the images to an earlier message, but it was too large with the three image files. I hope Martin received them and can post them below Dr. Worrall's very good anatomical study.
