Cervical IncompetenceFrom: Erika Gerhardt (gerhardt@dellsnet.com)Fri Nov 3 21:05:49 2000
Dear Madam or Sir: I am 12 weeks into my first pregnancy. My mother informed me that after my birth in 1970, 6 weeks prematurely, she was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix. With her second pregnancy she went into labor at 16 weeks and received a cerclage. My brother was born in 1983, 4 weeks premature.
>From the internet research I have done it seems there is no particularly effective way to predetermine this condition or treat it once it occurs, especially in a first pregnancy. Are there any hereditary indicators for cervical incompetence? Thank you Regards,

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
