He was our champion, and opened many doors for us. The very first ARDMS exams were held in his "home town" of Winston-Salem, NC in 1975. He guided and protected our fledgling group for many years and was one of the first to recommend that the ASUTS (later the SDMS) split off from the AIUM and go it alone. To my knowledge, he never, ever, refused a request for help from our group. Bill was happiest when he had the chance to mingle with sonographers, especially at their post-conference social events. He was often the first to show up and the last to leave, as those who attended a long ago WFUMB meeting in the Netherlands can attest. We have lost not only a true ultrasound Pioneer, but a down-to-earth, funny and very humble guy. ("Just call me Bill!") I 'll miss him, now that he is gone, but can take comfort in the treasure chest full of memories that he left me. I only wish you all could have known him. McKinney, 73 and an internationally known neurologist and pioneer in the use of medical ultrasound, died at home in North Carolina. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
