Be a good person. Most people who get sued have a horrible bedside manner, are disingenuous with their patients, and are not responsive to their needs. If you're honest with your patients, if you let them know all the risks and benefits of anything you're going to do, and you do not give them unrealistic expectations, and most importantly are available to your patients then you significantly decreased of risk of getting sued.

In what other ways can malpractice suits be avoided? I would hate to try to help someone then they turn around and sue for something that was not my fault. The patients should sign some sort of contract that informs them that problems resulting from their failure to follow the doctor's orders will releive the doctor(s) of responsiblity. I just don't think it is fair that people do this and get away with it. There are laws that protect patients, what laws protect physicians?

(I still want to be an ObGyn)
