James and Jared...thanks so much for your help! James...in your response, you talked about actually having a life outside of med school, and more importantly, residency. And you said that if you are in the right residency program, you will have free time. Can you mention any specific programs (preferably in the east)...also, I was wondering if there are any ob/gyns or students/residents who could suggest med schools/residency programs that are known to be excellent preparation for someone going into obstetrics/gynecology. Also, James- you said that you can opt to just work in obstetrics. I have never heard of a practice just doing(or specializing) in OB. It seems that most women use their normal ob/gyns during their pregnancies. Would choosing to go into just obstetrics limit my job choices after residency? Also--to all doctors, students, and those in residency-- i will be a freshman in college next fall, and do not want to major in the sciences. Most of the colleges I have applied to (Ivies, and others) do not offer pre-med programs, and many med schools say that you dont have to major in pre med or a science, but that you just need to fill the requirement. Would majoring in something like International Relations hurt my chances of acceptance? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your help!
