Infection in pregnancy

I'm a medical student, currently writing a project on the immunological basis of the maternal-fetal relationship. One of the hypotheses I am considering is fetal immunosuppression of the mother, to prevent rejection of the allogenically foreign fetus.

Could anyone tell me if there is a markedly increased incidence of infection during pregnancy, which would be an inevitable consequence of such an immunosuppression, or not?

Are there any journal articles which back this up?
