Total nonsequitoir...I've run into iport (http://www.atcominfo.com/iportmain.asp) a few times while at hotels (Mark's point 3 below). It is plug&play compatible through a web browser, you just plug in with your ethernet card and launch Internet Explorer or Netscape and it sets up everything in about 30-60 seconds and you are on the internet without doing any hardware or software setup other then registering your name and providing a credit card number. The iport provider can make it work with cat5, cable modem, coax, copper wire, or wireless lan (802.11). For example, iport is being installed on Royal Carribean cruiseliners.
You still need a laptop with a ethernet card but given that it sure makes getting to the internet really easy and very fast (1.5Mb or better from hotel rooms).
Best Bruce
