One GREAT way around these problems is to use a prepaid phonecard. Most people unwittingly pay anywhere from $0.30 to $1.00/minute using an MCI, AT@T, Sprint phone card...the kind that has your name on it and is based on your home telephone. Most people think that longdistance calls are being charged at the same rate as on their home telephone. They are NOT. Check your bills. You will be astonished at how expensive these calls are.

Prepaid phone cards can provide you with rates as low as $0.17/minute. When your time is used up, you can recharge them with your VISA or MASTERCARD. You have to dial an 800 number, then enter your PIN, then the number you are dialing.

You have to watch out though because some cards will tell you (in fine print ) that there are connect fees/reconnect fees/bong charges etc...

I have a fantastic card without all the bull.... and a great low rate....good as gold. This has literally saved me hundreds of dollars. In fact, I was so excited about it that I bought some extras to give away to my pals. If anyone is interested...email me privately and I'll find out from the company where you can get one like mine in your area.
