I feel that there is much paranoia out there both on the part of the
patients and the docs with regards to security on the web. If child hackers
can break into the US gov't, then what is to prevent sophisticated insurance
or government computer hackers from doing the same to private patient
records on the net. Dr. Bruce Levy is working with a group of programmers
out of Syracuse (Bruce Speyer and I attended their presentation with Jeff in
June, 1997) and they claim to have at least 17 levels of security which is
"virtually impossible" to crack. Be that as it may, the acceptance factor
for web based EMR will be hard to convince the mainstream in my opinion. I
am curious what other people think.
(Note: this is looking almost like what I would expect a chat room to look
like. I have never participated in one, but I can now see how one could get
hooked on them. It is now 1:15 a.m. and I have a full load of patients
tomorrow, so I had better turn off my computer monitor and not read anymore
