I'll tell you what I did. I went to CompUSA, and got the cable, a 10/100 USB network adapter (for the MAC) and a 10/100 LAN Ethernet card for the PC (it had no port for the Ethernet cable.) First I tried the network adapter, but, unlike what the saleswoman said, Linksys does not have a driver for MAC. Then I thought I could just hook up the cable modem to the Ethernet Hub (Kingston EtherRx SOHO 5 port hub) and the MAC to the hub. No go. No software for the MAC, if it is needed, and no way to use the MAC-cable connection so far unless it is a direct link.

What if I did it the other way around? Or, is there a specific type of hub that both MAC and PC can use?

Rick:

I've done exactly that, but what you need is 2 network cards in whatever computer you want to be the main one connected to the cable. One card gets connected to the cable, and the other connects to the other computer.

Windows 98 has internet sharing, but I've used wingate http://www.wingate.com

With wingate, you can definitely have the PC as the main server, and the MAC as a client.

Feel free to email or call me privately for more info.
