NEW STUDY OUTLINES PROMISE AND PITFALLS OF E-PRESCRIBING SYSTEMSAccording to a new report from The California Healthcare Foundation and First Consulting Group, healthcare organizations need to be careful in implementing e-prescribing initiatives. The guide, entitled "A Primer on Physician Order Entry," is designed to assist healthcare providers in understanding CPOE -- Computerized Physician Order Entry. The primer identifies how CPOE works, critical features of the technology involved, and in-depth lessons from several case studies. CHCF says CPOE systems can reduce the medication errors and adverse drug events that are prevalent throughout healthcare. However, CHCF warns that CPOE requires careful planning, design, and process improvement to work effectively.
