Norfolk Men's Clinic, the self-proclaimed "world's largest Internet-based seller of Viagra" is reeling from federal criminal charges brought against its principal owners and All International, a Florida-based wholesale distributor. The indictments allege the rogue pharmacy sold pharmaceuticals to people who did not have valid prescriptions written by a licensed medical practitioner. U.S. Attorney Redding Pitt says the Web pharmacy used a computer to create bogus scripts bearing the name of a Rumanian doctor. The phony pharmacy is said to have processed orders worth up to $54.6 million from customers in the U.S., the UK, France, Argentina, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, and Macau. Over 95 percent were for Viagra. The remainder was divided among lifestyle drugs Propecia and Xenical and, surprisingly, mainstream ethical products Celebrex and Claritin-D. In addition to violations of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, the company is being charged with money laundering and mail fraud for sending Rx drugs to consumers in packages labeled "letters and cards" and "herbal products."
