Definitely cute but bogus from a network perspective.
Networking *is* sharing.
Hey guys, just what do you think goes on at the DSL Access Multiplexor (DSLAM) at the termination of your DSL line?
What matters is overall network capacity and architecture, not what kind of wire is used to get to your house!
It may be the case that the SWBELL.net DSL network has a more robust back end, but I doubt it.
I have both ADSL - for my fixed IPs - and cable modem for the cheap bandwidth.
My "384K" incoming DSL is typically 800K-900K on downloads from fast sites - which is pretty good.
But my cable modem has been consistently 2M downloads from the same fast sites. Before it was "throttled" to 2M, I occasionally got as high as 3.7M (downloading a 650M Linux ISO from http://rufus.w3.org).
I'm now using a DLINK Di-701 "Residential Gateway" on the cable modem. This $100 appliance turns one DHCP IP into 32 and I'm getting those 2M downloads through it.
This is a way cool, easy to use device and a lot easier that running NAT software on either Win32 or Linux. With the cable modem non-authenticating DHCP, all you do it put it in line to the cable modem and reboot everything. [Though I do recommend changing the default password!]
It even supports the brain damaged PPPoE crap that SWBELL.net makes you use if you get the cheap one IP DHCP ADSL.
